Communicating with yourself and others

Learn to identify barriers to intercultural communication

In our workshops, you will learn to identity barriers to intercultural communication and learn how to overcome these barriers to communicate effectively with others. For example, I recall when I was in Mexico, I struggled with the linguistic barriers as my Spanish was limited. Things that would normally take a few moments suddenly took a long time such as ordering food and ensuring that it did not have gluten in it (I am allergic to gluten).

Learn about yourself

Intercultural communication is not just about learning to communicate with others, it is learning about yourself. Learn to identify biases and assumptions that may affect your interactions with others. When I was in Brazil, I did not know Portuguese nor was i familiar with the culture. I learned to reflect on my own biases and assumptions as I engaged with others.

Learn about intercultural communication models and how to apply them in your practice

In both of our workshops, we will be discussing intercultural communication models and the theory behind intercultural communication. You will learn how to apply concepts from these models to your life.
